KATHRIN LONGHURST

Australske Kathrin Longhursts visuelle sprog står i skærende kontrast til hendes barndom, hvor hun oplevede begge sider af jerntæppet under den kolde krig. Kontrasten mellem krigspropaganda og håbefulde løfter fra den anden side af muren har givet hende inspiration til hendes tidlige værker. Longhurst erstattede krigspropagandaen med "flyvende" kvindekrigere i stedet for frygtindgydende mandlige magtfigurer. Hendes tidlige værker skævvrider det visuelle paradigme af mænd og kvinder i krig, som er skabt af fortidens patriarkalske magtstrukturer. Longhursts kunstneriske tilgang tager udgangspunkt i selvobservation, hvormed hun omskriver nutiden for at styrke ligestillingen mellem kønnene i fremtiden.

"Volatilitet" har fået en ny betydning under udviklingen af den digitale tidsalder, i takt med at fortidens frygt for atomkraft er forsvundet. Longhursts interesse for en etisk samfundsudvikling har inspireret hende til at følge andre kvinders rejse for at forstå de fremtidige udfordringer for digitalt indfødte. Kvindekampen er en vigtig del af vores civilisations udokumenterede historie. Den bærer vigtige oplysninger med sig, som kan hjælpe med at analysere nyere tids historiske fejltagelser, så vi ikke begår dem igen og dermed stopper med at gøre fremskridt.
